Is it possible to transport frozen embryos or gametes between IVF clinics ?List Item 1
Legally you have the right to transport your frozen embryos or gametes between IVF clinics in the UK if the Human Ffertilisation and Embryo Authority (HFEA) licenses both clinics.
There are certain conditions that need to be met in order to transport your embryos or gametes to and from another country to the UK. The UK clinic will check for these requirements/conditions are met before importing or exporting your embryos or gametes. Requirements are* less strict if you want to transport your embryos or gametes to EU clinics compared to other countries.
Book a free consultation with us to discuss the possibility of transport and the documents required.

Is it safe to transport frozen embryos or gametes between IVF clinics ?List Item 2
Yes, it is safe if done correctly. Frozen embryos and gametes, especially if vitrified, should stay at a very low temperature (-190˚ C) while transporting them from one clinic to another. Any drop below this temperature may affect the survival and subsequently your frozen cycle may be cancelled on the day they are thawed.
-
Do you insure the transportation?List Item 3
Embryoport insures the entire transport process. Any damage or loss of your embryos or gametes will be compensated with £1000.
The receiving clinic will check that the shipper is received in a good condition and with the correct temperature on our monitoring device. We cannot insure or guarantee the embryo survival thereafter, as this will depend on the freezing and thawing process.
-
Do you help us with the required documents ?List Item 4
Yes we can and this is included in your transport fees. You can book for a free consultation to discuss what documents will be required before you are involved in any unnecessary fees. We can also communicate with your IVF clinic upon your request to speed up the transport process.
-
What is your refund policy?
Your transport fees will be fully refunded if we fail to transport your embryos or gametes. We will also refund you in full if the transport is cancelled either by you or refused by the receiving clinic. Please note that we will refund the same amount we received after deducting the bank transfer fees if applicable.

Why is it important for our frozen materials to be transported by an embryologist ?
Embryologists are scientists trained to deal with fresh and frozen embryos and gametes. Our embryologist will accompany your precious frozen materials at all times during the transportation. He/she will ensure that all environmental factors that may affect the viability and survival of your embryos or gametes are controlled. They can deal immediately with any incident to rescue your embryos or gametes.
